BOSTON BAY
Doing some photography work for a non-profit straight out of high school is never a bad idea. These photographs are my first experiments with the Sony Cybershot W200 ( which is now sadly an out of commission camera). Besides too few scanned color negatives, this is my record of a place i learned very quickly to love.
I cannot express enough the gratitude and love i feel towards the people who fed me, gave me shelter and showed me a great fucking time while i was there.
I hope some day to return to that part of Jamaica, as i know no other part. Boston Bay is a quiet and strong place where surfers find refuge in one of the only spots on the island that receives good enough waters to surf. If you are a young adult growing up there surfing is one of the few things to do. Some cling to the lifestyle and make a living by giving lessons to the few tourists who come to the area. A few of the young men joined a Jamaica wide surf team where their potential is not fully recognized. There are talented young men and women in the community bonding together to build a center where children can learn from quality equipment and hang out and have a safe place to grow up. The project is still underway and if you have any concerns or want to help in any way, please send me an email.
